"I am delighted to announce we will be the first country in the world to have LGBTI-inclusive education embedded within the curriculum", said John Swinney, Deputy First Minister of Scotland.
This monumental victory, with no exemptions and no opt-outs, was spearheaded by the TIE (Time for Inclusive Education) campaign. HUE is closely tied (no pun intended) to how the campaign expresses the need and relevancy to teach the history of LGBT+ equality and movements to all students.
The essence of this history-making victory, and to HUE's vision, is that all young people will have the opportunity to see the vital role of LGBT+ history in shaping today's world. When all students see their friends, family members, and/or themselves represented in the evolving story of civilization, it changes their perspective on belonging - whatever their identity. The result? Treating neighbors and friends with more respect and with deeper understanding.
We are giving Scotland, TIE, and all those who are the history-making back story to this global accomplishment a standing ovation. Thank you!
Which country is next? Will it be US?
